Doha is the capital of Qatar. It is the Qatar's largest city and the economic center of the country. The city of Doha founded in 1850 under the name Al-Bida, is considered as the most beautiful city in Qatar. The city became the capital of the British protectorate of Qatar in 1916. Even after its independence in 1971, the capital remained the same.
Oil export, which began in 1949, is the main source of income of the city. Being the economical center of Qatar, Doha holds much of the nation's oil and natural gas wealth. As a whole, the nation produces over 800,000 barrels of oil daily. Doha is also home to the headquarters of the country's largest oil and gas companies.

Lies in the Ad Dawhah municipality, Doha is located at 25.3º Latitude North and 51.5333º Longitude East on the Persian Gulf. The city, which covers a total area of 132 sq. km.
